PT Global Papua Abadi Asked to Stop Activities in Soa Village

The atmosphere of the press conference at the Papua Legal Aid Institute (LBH Papua Merauke) office in Merauke Regency, South Papua Province, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

The event was organized by the residents of Soa Senayu Village, Aruwa Hamlet, Tanah Miring District, Merauke Regency, South Papua Province. The community of Soa Senayu Village was accompanied by the Director of LBH Papua Merauke, Teddy Wakum, and LBH Papua Merauke staff member, Pilipus Cambu.

The press conference addressed allegations of legal violations committed by PT Global Papua Abadi concerning land owned by 75 families in Soa Village. These families have lived in Soa Village for generations since 1942.

Now, PT Global Papua Abadi has arrived and entered into conflict with the local residents. The company is one of the entities involved in a National Strategic Project (PSN) in Merauke.

During the press conference, LBH Papua Merauke called on the Governor of South Papua Province and the Regent of Merauke Regency to immediately resolve the land dispute. LBH Papua Merauke also urged the government to demand that PT Global Papua Abadi cease all land-clearing activities.

Furthermore, LBH Papua Merauke requested that the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), particularly the Papua representative office, ensure that no human rights violations are taking place in the area.

Mama Aknes Anok Parin Apay, a female representative of Soa Village residents, stated that they have lost their source of livelihood. The forest, which had long served as their means of sustenance, has been cut down. The deforestation has also resulted in flooding.

LBH Papua Merauke Director Teddy Wakum firmly demanded that PT Global Papua Abadi immediately halt all activities on land owned by the 75 families in Soa Village.

PT Global Papua Abadi Diminta Hentikan Aktivitas di Kampung Soa

Suasana konferensi pers di Kantor Lembaga Bantuan Hukum Papua Merauke (LBH Papua Merauke) di Kabupaten Merauke, Provinsi Papua Selatan pada Selasa, 27 Mei 2025. 

Acara tersebut diadakan oleh masyarakat Kampung Soa Senayu, Dusun Aruwa, Distrik Tanah Miring, Kabupaten Merauke Provinsi Papua Selatan. Masyarakat Kampung Soa Senayu didampingi Direktur LBH Papua Merauke, Teddy Wakum, dan Staf LBH Papua Merauke Pilipus Cambu.

Konferensi pers tersebut menyampaikan tentang kasus dugaan pelanggaran hukum oleh PT Global Papua Abadi terhadap lahan milik 75 keluarga di Kampung Soa. Puluhan keluarga itu tinggal di Kampung Soa secara turun-temurun sejak 1942.

Sekarang PT Papua Global Abadi datang dan berkonflik dengan warga. PT Papua Global Abadi merupakan salah satu perusahaan yang terlibat dalam proyek strategis nasional (PSN) di Merauke.

Dalam konferensi pers tersebut, LBH Papua Merauke meminta kepada kepada Gubernur Provinsi Papua Selatan dan Bupati Kabupaten Merauke agar permasalahan lahan tersebut segera diselesaikan. LBH Merauke juga mendesak pemerintah untuk meminta PT Global Papua Abadi segera menghentikan aktivitas pembukaan lahan.

Selain itu, LBH Papua Merauke juga meminta Komisi Nasional Hak Asasi Manusia (Komnas HAM) khusus perwakilan Papua untuk memastikan tidak ada pelanggaran HAM di sana.

Mama Aknes Anok Parin Apay, perwakilan perempuan warga Kampung Soa, mengatakan bahwa mereka telah kehilangan tempat mencari makan. Hutan yang selama ini menjadi tempat mereka mencari nafkah telah ditebang. Penebangan hutan juga mengakibatkan banjir.

Direktur LBH Papua Merauke Teddy Wakum secara tegas meminta PT Global Papua Abadi segera menghentikan semua aktivitas di wilayah kepemilikan hak tanah dari 75 keluarga di Kampung Soa.
