Submission of Signature of PSN Rejection
Representatives from the Merauke Solidarity Consolidation participants submitted a fabric containing signatures of residents rejecting the National Strategic Project (PSN) to the Deputy Minister of Human Rights, Mugiyanto Sipin, and the Chairperson of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Atnike Sigiro, on March 14, 2025. The Merauke Solidarity Consolidation event was held at the Petrus Vertenten MSC Center, Jalan Raya Cigombong, Kelapa Lima Village, Merauke District, South Papua, from March 11 to 14, 2025.
The event was attended by more than 250 people representing NGOs and indigenous communities affected by the PSN from across Indonesia. Among the participating NGOs were Bentala Pusaka, YLBHI, Walhi, the Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN), Trend Asia, KPA, and LBH.
Representatives of affected communities present at the event included those impacted by the food estate project in North Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, Keerom - Papua, Merauke, and Mappi, South Papua. Additionally, there were representatives from communities affected by the Rempang Eco City project in the Riau Islands and the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) project in East Kalimantan.
Other affected communities included those impacted by the Poco Leok geothermal project in East Nusa Tenggara and the extractive industry projects involving energy plantations and bioenergy in Jambi. There were also community representatives from PSN-affected areas in Fakfak and Bintuni Bay, West Papua, as well as those impacted by palm oil plantation expansion across the Papua region.
Merauke, which hosted the consolidation event, is currently facing PSN-driven land clearing on a massive scale, covering 2 million hectares. This project, a legacy of President Joko Widodo, is now being continued by President Prabowo Subianto. The large-scale land clearing significantly affects indigenous communities and threatens the sustainability of Papua's forests.
The PSN initiative has been implemented across various regions in Indonesia since 2016. Since then, numerous issues have emerged as the project has led to the displacement of indigenous communities from their customary lands. Furthermore, the PSN has caused extensive forest and environmental destruction.
A report from the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) states that the PSN has resulted in various forms of human rights violations. The project has also bypassed numerous legal norms and regulations, resulting in the obstruction and violation of human rights.
The implementation of the PSN has been conducted without involving local communities, ultimately triggering agrarian conflicts. Repressive approaches in PSN-conflicted areas have further added to the record of human rights violations in Indonesia.
Penyerahan Tanda Tangan Penolakan PSN
Laporan Komisi Nasional Hak Asasi Manusia (Komnas HAM) menyebutkan PSN menimbulkan pelbagai bentuk pelanggaran hak asasi manusia.
